Alec Sole Promoted to Triple-A Durham

Smedley Added to Hot Rods
September 1, 2015

Bowling Green, Ky. - Bowling Green utility infielder Alec Sole has been promoted to the Triple-A Durham Bulls of the International League, as announced by the Tampa Bay Rays Tuesday morning. Catcher Sean Smedley has been re-added to the Hot Rods to maintain a 25-player roster.

Sole marks the ninth Bowling Green player to receive a promotion in 2015 extending the squad's own franchise mark for single-season call-ups.

A natural shortstop, Sole has also seen time at first base, second base, third base and even pitched 0.1 innings at Lansing back on June 16. In 61 games played, the former Saint Louis University Billiken hit for a .308 average (68-for-221) with 13 doubles, four triples, one home run, 29 RBI and five stolen bases. Sole fashioned two of Bowling Green's seven 10-plus game hitting streaks this year, tying his own career-standard of 10 games twice originally set last season in Hudson Valley.

Last year's 18th round selection by the Rays also clubbed the Hot Rods' lone walkoff home run this season, a solo shot to leadoff the bottom of the ninth inning on July 26 for a dramatic 3-2 win over Fort Wayne. The circuit clout marked Sole's first professional home run.

Smedley appeared in five games with Bowling Green earlier this half as a reserve catcher. The former Texas A&M International standout also played in 15 games for the Hot Rods in 2014.

Bowling Green concludes the first part of its six-game homestand with the finale of the three-game series against South Bend. Tickets for the Hot Rods' remaining three home contests with Lake County make be purchased by calling (270) 901-2121 or by visiting www.bghotrods.com
