SeaWolves Sweep Doubleheader Over Baysox

The SeaWolves swept a doubleheader on Saturday night over the Bowie Baysox 3-2 and 4-1. Erie is now on a three-game winning streak heading into the final two games of the season.

GAME ONE

The Baysox jumped ahead in the first against Erie starter Josh Turley. Corban Joseph led off with a single and moved to third on a Trey Mancini double. Quincy Latimore singled home Joseph for a 1-0 lead. Turley would induce a double play off the bat of Brandon Snyder to get out of the inning. He then went on to retire the next eight straight and 15 of the next 16 batters he faced.

Erie tied the game in the last of the second against Baysox starter Chris Lee. Dominic Ficociello led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a Jason Krizan knock. Drew Longley doubled home Ficociello making it a 1-1 game.

The 'Wolves took the lead in the fourth, loading the bases on Lee with a pair of singles from Krizan and Longley and a Connor Harrell walk. With one out, Wynton Bernard grounded to third and the Baysox threw home to retire Krizan for the second out. JaCoby Jones followed and singled with a shot off the pitcher Lee, plating Longley for a 2-1 advantage.

Erie added a third run in the fifth. Wade Gaynor walked with one out and stole second. He scored on Longley's third hit of the game making it 3-1.

The Baysox closed the gap in the seventh when Latimore led off and homered off of Turley making it 3-2. Turley went on and retired the final three batters of the game to seal the Erie win.

Turley (13-8) allowed two runs on five hits with no walks and four strikeouts in a complete game effort.

GAME TWO

The 'Wolves jumped ahead in the first inning against Bowie starter Marcel Prado. Wynton Bernard led off with a double and scored on a one-out Jason Krizan single for a 1-0 lead.

Bowie tied the game in the top of the third against Erie spot starter Slade Smith. Garabez Rosa singled with one out and moved to second on a Corban Joseph knock. With two outs, Trey Mancini singled home Rosa, tying the game.

Erie regained the lead in the last of the fourth. With one out, Krizan walked and reached second on a wild pitch. With two outs, Wade Gaynor walked putting two on for James Robbins. Robbins doubled to the opposite-field, plating two runs for a 3-1 lead. Austin Green followed with a base hit, scoring Robbins to make it 4-1.

Whit Mayberry (3-3) earned the win tossing a scoreless fifth inning and Gabe Hemmer earned his first save throwing two shutout innings, preserving the win.

Smith took the no-decision in his first start of the season. He allowed a run on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts in four innings.
