Gasaway Named TL Executive of the Year

Missions GM Earns Top Honors in Texas League
September 22, 2015

San Antonio, TX  -- Earlier Tuesday, the Texas League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced that San Antonio Missions General Manager, David S.L. Gasaway, is the 2015 Bill Valentine Texas League Executive of the Year. The award, named after Texas League Hall of Famer, Bill Valentine, is voted on by the leaders of the 8-team Texas League and is presented annually to an individual who has had a successful season in the areas of leadership, attendance, marketing initiatives, promotions, facility enhancements, game day experience, community involvement and overall baseball operations.

"I am honored and humbled to accept this award on behalf of all of the Missions Front Office," Gasaway said. "Our team works very hard to make sure our fans have the best possible experience when they come to The Wolff. It means a lot to me personally to win an award named after a legend such as the late Bill Valentine. He, along with Missions President, Burl Yarbrough, helped give me my start in baseball in 1990. I will forever be grateful to both."

Under Gasaway's leadership, the Missions set franchise records in Corporate Sponsorship Sales, Group Sales, and Gameday Revenue. Attendance, 308,564 fans in 2015, was the highest Missions mark since 2002, accomplished in Wolff Stadium's 22nd Season.   The Missions community initiatives, led by the Missions Rookie League, in partnership with the San Antonio Police Athletic League, have made the organization a big part of the community fabric of the city.

"I am very excited for Dave to be recognized by his peers in winning this award," said Missions President Burl Yarbrough, himself a 3-time Texas League Executive of the Year. "Since coming back to the Missions in 2004, he has really helped elevate our organization to great heights."

Gasaway, 46, has worked in Minor League Baseball since 1990. He just completed his 18th season with the Missions. He has also worked with the High Desert Mavericks (California League), Springfield Cardinals (Midwest League) and Somerset Patriots (Atlantic League). He is married to Leticia Gasaway and has three children, Marie, 18, Diana, 16 and JD 13.
