International Rugby Match Comes to Dell Diamond on February 13

Express to Host USA, Canada National Teams
January 5, 2016

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The diamond will become a pitch once again as the Round Rock Express, in a partnership with USA Rugby, announced they will host the USA and Canada national rugby teams as part of the inaugural Americas Rugby Championship on February 13 at 6:00 p.m. CST at Dell Diamond.

The five-week tournament will feature six of North and South America's top-ranked international rugby union teams: USA, Canada, Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina. The Express will host one of only three games played in the United States.

It'll be a game of firsts as it's the first time Dell Diamond will host a rugby match and the first time the USA men's national team will play a game in Central Texas. The game has local ties, however, as Chris Baumann of the USA Rugby Eagles currently plays with the Austin Blacks Men's Rugby Club, known as one of the top men's clubs in the country. Additionally, Austin is the only major city in the US where two clubs own rugby facilities: the Blacks and the Huns.

Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the United States with the number of rugby players doubling between 2008 and 2013 to almost 1.2 million, according to data from the Sports & Fitness Industry Association. In the state of Texas alone, the sport has seen a 17% increase in registered USA Rugby members in the last four years.

Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased through the Round Rock Express ticket office (512-255-2255) and online at RoundRockExpress.com or by clicking here.
