Bees Announce 2016 Coaching Staff

January 11, 2016

SALT LAKE CITY (January 11, 2016) - The Los Angeles Angels announced their minor league development and coaching staffs today. Alongside manager Keith Johnson, the Salt Lake Bees coaching staff will be comprised of pitching coach Erik Bennett, hitting coach Tom Tornincasa, trainer Brian Reinker and strength and conditioning coach Andrew Chappell. The staff appointments were announced by Angels minor league operations director Mike LaCassa.

"This is a great group of coaches that I'm excited have with me in Salt Lake," Bees manager Keith Johnson said. "We are going to do what it takes to get our players better and help them take advantage of opportunities at the next level when they arrive."

Bennett is entering his ninth season as the pitching coach for the Bees. The former Major League reliever enjoyed a 10-year professional playing career which included stints with the Angels, Minnesota Twins and Salt Lake Buzz. Since joining the Bees in 2008, Bennett has helped dozens of pitchers prepare for the Major Leagues including Angels starting pitchers Andrew Heaney, Matt Shoemaker and Garrett Richards.

Tornincasa joined the Angels organization in 2014 after spending 14 years as a coach in the San Diego Padres organization. The former college shortstop spent each of the last two season with the Angels Double-A affiliate in Arkansas. Tornincasa takes over for previous Bees hitting coach Johnny Narron who will serve as the Angels minor league hitting coordinator in 2016.

Reinker enters his ninth season as the trainer for Salt Lake and 14th in the Angels organization. In 2015 Reinker was named the Pacific Coast League Athletic Trainer of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society.

Chappell joins Salt Lake from Arkansas where he served as the strength and conditioning coach for the Travelers in 2015. Prior to joining the Angels organization last year, Chappell was with the Colorado Rockies spending two seasons with their Single-A affiliate in Modesto.
