MIDLAND, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons are pleased to announce the addition of Kelly Rensel as the new Head Groundskeeper for the Loons. Rensel will supervise all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the playing field at Dow Diamond, and all aspects of grounds maintenance on the entire property.

"To have someone with Kelly's credentials become a part of our organization is something we are very pleased with," Loons General Manager Scott Litle said. "We know he will continue the fine work our past groundskeepers have done for us."

Prior to joining the Loons, Rensel was the Head Groundskeepr for the Greenville Astros for two seasons, as well as the Head Groundskeeper for the Huntsville Stars for four years. In 2009, he was the Head Groundskeeper for the Idaho Falls Chukars and got his baseball career started in 2008 as a Grounds Crew/Stadium Ops intern with the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.

"I'm really excited to be joining the Loons and can't wait to get started with preparations for this season," Rensel said.

In 2014, Rensel received the recognition of Appalachian League Sports Turf Manager of the Year sponsored by the Sports Turf Managers Association (STMA). He has also spent time working at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Baseball Tournament.

Rensel, 30, received a B.S. in Sport Administration from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in 2009.

The Erie, Pa., native joins the Loons after former director of grounds and facilities Nick Wolcott made the jump to Major League Baseball joining the Miami Marlins last November.

The Great Lakes Loons have been a Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers since the team's inception in 2007 and are entering their 10th season in 2016. For tickets and more information about the Loons, call 989-837-BALL or visit Loons.com.
