March 11, 2016

NORWICH, CT- The Connecticut Tigers, Class-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, announce that Dave Schermerhorn has been named the new General Manager and will oversee the day-to-day operations of the franchise. Vice President & General Manager Eric Knighton will be stepping down to pursue a job outside of baseball. The transition of responsibility will begin immediately.

"Eric and his many talents will be missed. We wish him luck in his new endeavor," said Tigers Senior Vice President C.J. Knudsen. "Dave is the perfect person to take the helm and guide the Tigers. Having grown up in Norwich and being a part of the Tigers' front office staff since 2010 makes this a wonderful opportunity for both Dave and the Tigers. He will be very successful as the General Manager and will continue to provide outstanding family entertainment for our fans to enjoy for years to come."

Schermerhorn is a Norwich, CT native and has been with the franchise since its inaugural 2010 season. He had most recently served as the team's Assistant General Manager since December of 2013. Prior to that, he served as Director of Community Relations & Promotions for the club during the 2010-2013 seasons. He is a graduate of Norwich Free Academy and was a part of the 2003 state championship baseball team.

"I'm very excited and thankful for this opportunity. We're fortunate to have an outstanding staff in place that works tirelessly to bring the best family-friendly and affordable entertainment to our fans," said Schermerhorn. "It's truly an honor to lead this franchise in my hometown and in the ballpark I grew up in both as a kid and professionally."

Knighton joined the organization as Assistant General Manager in 2009 while the team was located in Oneonta, New York. He helped transition the franchise to Norwich following the 2009 season and served as Assistant General Manager for the 2009-2011 seasons before being promoted to Vice President & Assistant General Manager in the fall of 2012, and to Vice President & General Manager in the fall of 2013. In his two years as General Manager (2014 and 2015), he oversaw the two best seasons in franchise history in total and average attendance.

"It has been a great pleasure to work for this organization and to create many wonderful relationships in the area," said Knighton. "It's a bittersweet decision for me personally, but the team is in great hands and will only continue to grow. Dodd Stadium is a place where people come to have fun and it was exciting to be a part of that."
