The 2016 roster is highlighted by many holdovers from the 2015 Championship squad, along with several key additions:

  • Starting Pitcher Mike Clevenger is one of the top prospects in the Indians system. Clevenger was a 4th round selection by the LA Angels in 2011. He was traded in 2014 in exchange for Vinnie Pestano. He pitched brilliantly for the Clippers in the playoffs, authoring 14.1 shutout innings. Clevenger will be joined in the Clippers rotation by familiar faces. LHPs T.J. House and Ryan Merritt and RHPs Jarrett Grube, Will Roberts and Toru Murata.
  • Outfielder Michael Choice was the Governors' Cup Championship MVP. He returns to the Clippers after joining the organization in August of last year. Choice hit .424 with 9 extra-base hits in the playoffs. He will partner with newcomers Joey Butler (Tampa Bay) and Robbie Grossman (Houston).
  • First Baseman Jesus Aguilar led the International League in RBI's in 2015. The Venezuelan slugger was named to both the mid and post-season All-Star teams. Most of his infield mates are recognizable names. 2B Michael Martinez, SS Erik Gonzalez, 3B and Giovanny Urshela all return. Only IF Ronny Rodriguez did not wear a Clippers uniform during the 2015 regular season.
  • Adam Moore was a huge part of the Clippers' 2015 success, and he will man the catcher position again this year. Joining Moore are new faces in Anthony Recker (Mets) and Guillermo Quiroz (Giants) & returner Alex Lavisky.
  • The relief corps will look familiar to Clippers fans as closer Shawn Armstrong returns after leading the IL with 14.5 K/9 along with a team-best 17 saves in 2015. Also back in the bullpen for Columbus are RHPs Austin Adams and LHPs Kyle Crockett, and Nick Maronde. RHP Jeff Johnson was Akron's closer a season ago and saved 27 games for the Rubber Ducks with a 1.05 ERA. He made two appearances for the Clippers in the playoffs. The Clippers pen will be rounded out by veteran acquisitions RHPs Tom Gorzelanny (Tigers) and Felipe Paulino (Cubs).

The 2016 season begins on Thursday, April 7th at 6:35pm against Indianapolis. The first 5,000 families through the gates on Opening Night will receive a 2014 Clippers Schedule Magnet. The Clippers will present the team with Championship rings in an on-field ceremony beginning at 6:10. For more information, log on to clippersbaseball.com or call (614)462-5250.
