Augusta Tops Rome 4-3

The Augusta GreenJackets defeated the Rome Braves 4-3 Saturday at State Mutual Stadium before 4,041 fans. 

Rome hit the scoreboard in the first inning when Wigberto Nevarez lined a two run double to right field giving the Braves a 2-0 lead. The GreenJackets tied the contest in the third on a Lucius Fox two run home run and took the lead in the fourth on an errant pick-off throw scoring a run for the 3-2 advantage. 

In the bottom of the inning, the Braves tied the game on an RBI groundout by Alejandro Salazar but Augusta grabbed the lead again in the sixth on a wild pitch to score the go ahead run for the 4-3 score. GreenJackets pitching held the Braves scoreless from the fifth through ninth innings to preserve the win.            

Conner Kaden (0-1) earns the win for Augusta while Caleb Smith (1) the save. Chad Sobotka (0-1) get hit with the loss. Rome goes to 2-1 on the season and Augusta (1-2) picks up their first win.
