Kaprielian's 9 Ks a Career-High in 1st Pro Win
April 11, 2016

TAMPA, Fla. - James Kaprielian tallied a career-high nine strikeouts and earned his first professional win, helping the Tampa Yankees (4-1) defeat the Bradenton Marauders (2-3), 5-2, on Monday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

Miguel Andujar connected on his second home run of the season when he hit a two-run bomb over the left field wall in the first inning.

Kaprielian (1-0) struck out seven of the first 11 batters he faced in his T-Yanks debut. The right-hander held Bradenton to one run on three hits without issuing a walk and tossed 49 of 60 pitches for strikes.

Connor Joe hit a leadoff triple in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jerrick Suiter, cutting the Marauder's deficit to 2-1.

The Yankees quickly responded with two more runs off RHP Austin Coley in the home half. Zack Zehner doubled and advanced to third on a single by Michael O'Neill. Zehner then scored as Abiatal Avelino reached on a fielder's choice. Avelino later scored on a wild pitch, giving Tampa a 4-1 lead.

Coley (0-1) allowed four runs on seven hits in four and two-third innings. The righty walked three and struck out four.

Dan Camarena relieved Kaprielian in the sixth. A solo home run by Taylor Gushue in the seventh proved to be the only hit allowed by the southpaw. Camarena tossed three innings and struck out three, yielding one run on a hit and a walk.

O'Neill singled and stole second to begin the Tampa eighth. Three batters later, a wild pitch by RHP Miguel Rosario allowed O'Neill to score.

LHP Jacob Lindgren closed out the win by striking out the side in the ninth. Lindgren worked around a two-out walk and earned his first save of the season.

Billy Fleming reached base in all four plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk. O'Neill finished 2-for-3 with a hit-by-pitch, a stolen base and a run scored. Zehner reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored.

The series continues on Tuesday when RHP Vicente Campos (1-0, 3.60 ERA) takes the hill for Tampa. RHP Alex McRae (1-0, 0.00 ERA) is slated to start for Bradenton. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
