Eflin Dominant as Pigs Blank Wings, 3-0

April 17, 2016

Zach Eflin was dominant over eight shutout innings as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (4-5) blanked the Rochester Red Wings (4-6) by a score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Coca-Cola Park.

Eflin (2-0) gave up just two hits to go along with five strikeouts over his eight innings of work. RHP Edward Mujica (1.0 IP, 2 K) came on in relief of Eflin and got the final three outs to notch his second save of the year.

Cam Perkins' two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh off of Red Wings starter Logan Darnell provided the only offense that the IronPigs would need. It was the first home run of the season for Perkins.

Darnell (0-2) was dealt the loss after giving up the two runs on six hits while fanning three in 6.2 IP.

The IronPigs were able to push across an insurance run in the eighth as Darnell Sweeney led off with a double, advanced to third on an error charged to Rochester 2B Jorge Polanco and scored on a wild pitch from Wings RHP David Martinez (1.1 IP, 2 H, R, ER, BB).

Taylor Featherston (2-4, 3B) had a multi-hit game for Lehigh Valley.

The Pigs will begin a two-game set with the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday night at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. as RHP Mark Appel (1-0, 0.00) will be on the bump for the IronPigs against Syracuse RHP Austin Voth (0-0, 0.00).
