April 24, 2016

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jacksonville Suns (8-10) fell to the Montgomery Biscuits (10-7) by a 9-7 score in the third game of the five-game series at Riverwalk Stadium on Sunday evening.

Suns spot starter Scott Lyman (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs on five hits during his two and two-third innings of work. Biscuits reliever Jeff Ames (2-0) earned the win, and Brad Schreiber collected his fourth save and second straight against the Suns.

The Biscuits had back-to-back three-run innings in the second and the third innings to lead 6-0 heading into the top of the fourth. The Suns fought back, with Peter Mooney hitting a two-RBI double to get Jacksonville on the board, before Austin Dean hit an RBI double of his own to cut Montgomery's lead to 6-3. Montgomery answered with Mike Marjama hitting his third straight double, bringing in a run to give the Biscuits a 7-3 advantage.

Jacksonville got a run back in the seventh when J.T. Riddle had an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-4. Montgomery added two runs in the bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly from Tommy Coyle and an RBI double by Johnny Field to lead 9-4 going to the top of the eighth.

That's when the Suns had their second three-run inning of the game. Moises Sierra drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the first run, before Riddle hit his second RBI single of the night to make it a 9-6 ballgame. When new pitcher Schreiber came in, he gave up a sacrifice fly to Matt Juengel to put the score at 9-7, which would be the final.

The Suns collected a season-high 15 hits in the loss, and each hitter except for catcher Francisco Arcia recorded a base hit. Sierra finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and RBI for one of his best performances of the season. The Biscuits stole six bases in the game, the most the Suns have given up all year, and Granden Goetzman had a four steal day, tying a Montgomery franchise record for most steals in a game.

Tomorrow the Suns and Biscuits will square off in the fourth game of the series at 8:05 p.m. ET. The Suns starter is to be announced, while the Biscuits will start right-hander Ryne Stanek (0-2, 5.68 ERA).
