Soggy SeaWolves Fall to Thunder

April 30, 2016

The SeaWolves dropped a rain-shortened game on Saturday night to the Trenton Thunder, 4-1 at Jerry Uht Park.

Trenton jumped ahead in the third against SeaWolves starter Myles Jaye. With two outs, Tyler Wade walked and Jake Cave followed with a two-run home run to right for a 2-0 Thunder lead.

The Thunder added to the lead in the fourth. Tyler Austin and Lane Adams connected on back-to-back singles to open the inning, putting runners on the corners. A wild pitch allowed Austin to score making it 3-0.

In the top of the sixth, Trenton would add a fourth run. With Adams on first after a fielder's choice, Dante Bichette, Jr. doubled off the wall in right.

The SeaWolves lone run came in the bottom of the seventh against Thunder starter Brady Lail. Erie loaded the bases on a Dominic Ficociell double and consecutive singles by John Hicks and Harold Castro. With one out, Gustavo Nunez hit into a fielder's choice, plating Ficociello making it 4-1. The 'Wolves would get no closer.

Jaye (0-3) took the loss allowing four runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. The eight strikeouts were a season-high for Jaye and was one-shy of his career-high.

Lail (1-2) earned the win for Trenton allowing a run on eight hits with two walks and five strikeouts in seven innings.

The SeaWolves will look to salvage the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. RHP Tommy Collier (2-2, 5.63 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against RHP Cale Coshow (0-1, 3.68 ERA). Collier is coming off a seven-inning shutout performance against Altoona.
