Hammerheads record 14 hits in loss.

May 9, 2016

Port St. Lucie, FL - The Hammerheads (14-16) rode into St. Lucie (17-13) on a high of sweeping the Palm Beach Cardinals and winning five straight at home. Hoping to bring that momentum in to this matchup with the second place Southern Division Mets.

It was all Hammerheads through three, with one run in the 2nd inning and four in the 3rd, but St. Lucie rallied down 5-0 and tied it up quickly in the 4th inning with 5 runs.

In the fourth, Champ Stuart singled on a bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error. Amed Rosario triples in Stuart for the first run of the inning. Jeff Brigham is relieved from the game after allowing seven runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and one home run. Rosario would score on a ground out and Tomas Nido left the building with a three run home run, his first of the season.

From the fourth on it was an offensive show for the St. Lucie Mets. In total, the Mets knocked 18-hits and 14 runs with a five run 8th for good measure to defeat Jupiter 14-to-6 and take game one of a split home and home four game series.

Dexter Kjerstand launched his 4th home run of the season, Justin Bohn sailed his 1st dinger of the year, Brian Schales knocked in his 2nd RBI, Bohn his 3rd RBI, Ard his team leading 16th RBI and Kjerstad his 11th.

Every Hammerhead player recorded at least a hit in a 14 hit ballgame. Kjerstad, Bohn, Brian Anderson, Brad Haynal and Chis Hoo each recorded two hit games. Jupiter was 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left 10 on-base in the lopsided defeat.

Tomorrow, your Hammerheads send to the mound Dillon Peters (2-2, 3.24 ERA) to face St. Lucie starter Josh Prevost (2-2, 5.40 ERA). Game time 10:30 AM at Tradition Field, featuring Education Day. An event the Hammerheads are familiar with, having already played two Education Day games, with 10:30 AM starts. The Hammerheads are currently 2-0 when beginning a game around 10:30 AM.
