Nine Run Seventh Inning Sparks Blowout Victory
May 11, 2016

VISALIA, CA- The Stockton Ports (14-17) scored nine runs in the seventh inning and turned a close, one-run game into a lopsided 11-3 victory over the Visalia Rawhide (22-9) at Recreation Ballpark on Tuesday night.

A 1B Sandber Pimentel two-run home run in the second inning off new Visalia RHP Taylor Clarke (0-1, 7.50) staked Stockton to an early 2-0 lead. Clarke, in his California League debut, pitched six-plus innings but left with the bases loaded trailing 2-1 in the seventh.

Visalia plated their run after a C Oscar Hernandez double in the third. 2B Domingo Leyba turned in a nice piece of two-strike, two-out hitting, knocking a single to right field that scored Hernandez and cut the lead in half.

RHP Daniel Gossett, for Stockton, logged 4.2 innings and was pulled after a two out walk in the fifth. He allowed two hits and one run (earned), walking two and striking out six.

The nine run seventh started when Clarke hit Pimentel and then gave up back-to-back singles to load the bases with nobody out. RHP Blake Perry was summoned and after recording the first two outs, he allowed five straight hits and eight runs crossed the plate for Stockton. Perry was tagged with five hits allowed and six runs (earned), walking one.

Taylor's line went complete in the seventh and in his six-plus frames he officially allowed four runs (earned) on five hits, two walks and he picked up five strikeouts, taking the loss.

Another new member of the Rawhide, RHP Jency Solis made his California Debut as well, pitching 1.1 innings and giving up one run on two hits and a walk to close out the scoring.

DH Henry Castillo doubled and scored on SS Dawel Lugo's RBI single before scoring himself when C Tyler Baker hit a double play ball for an 11-3 final.

RHP Kyle Finnegan (1-0, 2.25) earned the win for his 1.1 scoreless relief of Gossett.

The series continues tomorrow afternoon with a 3:30 p.m. first pitch. RHP Wei-Chieh Huang (0-0, 8.47) will toe the rubber for Visalia against RHP Brett Graves (2-4, 5.28) for Stockton.
