Early Augusta Lead Proves Too Much, Braves Fall 8-5

The Rome Braves fell to the Augusta GreenJackets Friday night at State Mutual Stadium 8-5 before 2,634 fans.

Augusta took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on Dillon Dobson's RBI single and a Rome fielding error allowing the second run to cross the plate. The second inning saw five touch home for the GreenJackets. Lucius Fox had a run scoring single, Jalen Miller added a two RBI triple, and Dobson cracked a two run homer to right giving Augusta a 7-0 lead.

Rome dented the scoreboard in the sixth on Austin Riley's RBI base hit and Augusta added a run in the eighth for the 8-2 score. In the bottom of the ninth, Rome plated three runs but Augusta held on for the 8-5 win.

GreenJackets starter Cory Taylor (3-0) earns the win and Rome's Ricardo Sanchez (2-4) is hit with the loss. Sanchez lasted 1.2 innings allowing six earned runs and seven hits.
