Borucki leads Lugnuts to fourth straight win

May 25, 2016

LANSING, Mich. - Ryan Borucki fired six shutout innings, helping the Lansing Lugnuts (24-20) extend their winning streak to four games with a 5-2 matinee victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (23-23) on Wednesday at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Borucki (Win, 1-1), MLB Pipeline's #12 prospect in the Blue Jays' organization, scattered five hits and two walks while striking out six. It was his second straight start of six innings, his career long as a professional.

The Lugnuts offense, meanwhile, scored more than four runs in a game for the first time since May 15th, tallying two in the third inning against Fort Wayne starter Jacob Nix (Loss, 0-1) before adding three insurance runs in the seventh against Austin Smith.

Every Lugnut batter save for center fielder Lane Thomas, collected exactly one hit, with 6-7-8 batters Gunnar Heidt, Josh Almonte and Carl Wise each scoring a run and driving in a run.

Patrick Murphy (Save, 1) pitched the final three innings, striking out four, allowing three hits, two walks and two ninth-inning runs before slamming the door shut with a strikeout of Ruddy Giron.

The Lugnuts look for their series sweep on a Labatt Thirsty Thursday Gone Wild: Biker Night! Enjoy $2 beers, half off craft brews and more, with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:05 first pitch. Right-hander Sean Reid-Foley (2-3, 4.20) starts against Fort Wayne left-hander Thomas Dorminy (0-0, 3.00).
