Game Recap 5/26

Box Score | Play-by-Play

PENSACOLA, FL - The Birmingham Barons secured an early lead and used their defense to fend off a late Pensacola Blue Wahoos rally, capturing a 6-4 victory that evened the series after two games.

Barons' starter Jordan Guerrero got his second win of the season, tossing six innings and adding four strikeouts while allowing just one earned run on three total hits. The White Sox no. 6 prospect walked five and finished with 51 strikes among 93 total pitches.

Peter Tago sealed his fifth save of the season out of the bullpen, hurling two innings while posting two strikeouts. Matt Lollis added a scoreless seventh inning before handing over the ball to the Barons closer in the bottom of the eighth.

Eddy Alvarez started the scoring, plating Jeremy Dowdy to put the Barons out front 1-0 in the second inning. Jake Peter plated leadoff hitter Adam Engel to extend the lead one frame later and added a solo home run in the fifth inning to extend Birmingham's advantage to 3-1.

The Barons jumped out to a four run lead in the eighth inning as Trey Michalczewski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Eudy Pina advanced home thanks to a Jeremy Dowdy double play.

Pensacola pushed three runs across in the eighth, but Adam Engel used his speed to force a throwing error in the ninth inning. Eddy Alvarez scored on the play, adding an insurance run to reach tonight's 6-4 final.

White Sox no. 1 prospect Carson Fulmer toes the slab for the Barons tomorrow with first pitch slated for 6:30 p.m. Fulmer registered his second win of the season earlier this year against Pensacola.
