Hannemann, Young Lead Smokies To 4-1 Win Over Lookouts

Hannemann Homers And Young Picks Up Two RBI
June 14, 2016

SEVIERVILLE - The Smokies took the final game of the five-game series against the Lookouts on Tuesday afternoon by a count of 4-1. CF Jacob Hannemann hit his second home run in as many games for the Smokies while RHP Jen-Ho Tseng picked up his second win of the season.

With the win the Smokies improved to 28-37 on the year while the Lookouts drop to 33-31 on the season.

Chattanooga's CF Zach Granite (2-3, R) led off the contest with a triple to right field and was immediately driven home thanks to a sacrifice fly off of the bat of SS Engelb Vielma (2-3, RBI) to give the Lookouts a 1-0 advantage.

The Smokies offense got going in the fifth frame as SS Carlos Penalver (1-4, R, SO) led off the inning with a single to right field. 3B Daniel Lockhart (0-3, R) followed that up by reaching on a throwing error by 2B Ryan Walker (0-3). Both Smokies moved into scoring position with LF Trey Martin (0-2) laying down a sacrifice bunt.

2B Chesny Young (3-4, 2 RBI) drove in both Penalver and Lockhart after sending a ground ball between third and second which was deflected by Velma giving Young a two-RBI single handing Tennessee a 2-1 lead. Young's two RBI game was the first time he had driven in a run since June 5 at Mississippi.

Despite giving up the triple and one run in the first inning, Tseng (6.0 IP, 5 H, R, ER, 2 SO, BB) found a groove on the mound in his season-high six innings of work. The 21-year-old retired the Lookouts in order in the second and third innings and struck out two batters in his outing.

"Today [Tseng] was limited to 85 pitches, and he was throwing strikes and was aggressive," Smokies' manager Mark Johnson said. "He got his breaking ball working today which has kind of been his Achilles heel this season."

RHP Stephen Perakslis (1.0 IP, H, SO, BB) took the mound for Tennessee to start the seventh inning and forced the Lookouts to hit into one double play and picked up a strikeout in his inning of work.

The Smokies picked up an insurance run in the home half of the seventh inning as Hannemann (1-4, HR, R, RBI, SO) sent a rocket over the foul pole in right field for his eighth home run of the season. Hannemann hit a solo shot against the Lookouts on Monday as well.

"Hannemann is swinging the bat well right now," Johnson said. "Yesterday he had a couple of hits and today he missed a home run earlier in the game too. You can't say enough about him out there on defense. His center field play is great and having that defense out there and that speed playing on the bases helps."

Following the solo homer from Hannemann, the Lookouts turned to the bullpen as LHP Corey Williams (1.1 IP, 3 H, R, ER, SO) came on in relief of RHP Kohl Stewart and Williams escaped the seventh getting a pop out from Young. Hannemann's home run was the only earned run Stewart (6.2 IP, 7 H, HR, 3 R, ER, SO, BB) allowed on the afternoon.

Tennessee was able to add to their lead in the eighth inning when Williams threw a wild pitch with two outs allowing 1B Cael Brockmeyer (2-4, R) to scamper home from third and push the Smokies' edge to 4-1.

RHP Jose Rosario (2.0 IP, SO, BB) picked up his first save at the Double-A level while striking out 1B D.J. Hicks (1-4, SO) to finish the contest.

The Smokies begin a five-game series in Jackson on Wednesday night with the first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. ET from West Tennessee. Tennessee is set to give the mound to RHP Brad Markey (5-1, 2.33 ERA) while Jackson has yet to name an expected starting pitcher.
