SeaWolves Drop Series Opener to Fisher Cats

The SeaWolves dropped the series opener to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park, 6-5.

New Hampshire jumped ahead in the top of the first against Erie starter Josh Turley. Roeman Fields led off with a double and was doubled home by Jason Leblebijian for a 1-0 lead. With one out, Ryan Lavarnway connected on a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead.

Erie got one back in the last of the second against Fisher Cats starter Taylor Cole. Corey Jones led off and reached on an error. With one out, Kody Eaves doubled home Jones making it 3-1.

The Cats added to their lead in the fourth. Rowdy Tellez and Matt Dean started the inning with consecutive singles. A wild pitch advanced the runners to second and third. Christian Lopes singled home Tellez making it 4-1. Shane Opitz followed with a sacrifice fly to center, plating Dean for a 5-1 lead.

The SeaWolves again struck back in the bottom of the fourth. Dominic Ficociello led off with a single and Eaves walked. Grayson Greiner singled home Ficociello to make it a 5-2 game. With one out, Harold Castro doubled home Eaves to cut the Cats lead down to a pair at 5-3.

In the top of the fifth, the Fisher Cats would go ahead 6-3 when Lavarnway connected on a two-out, solo home run, his second long ball of the game.

The SeaWolves used the a pair of solo home runs to make it a one-run game. In the sixth, Casey Frawely notched an opposite-field blast for his first of the year and in the seventh, Ficociello homered to left-center to make it 6-5. The home for Ficociello was his second of the year and first since April 20. He fell a triple shy of the cycle.

Reliever John Stilson (3-0) earned the win for the Fisher Cats in relief. He allowed a run on one hit with no walks and two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.

Turley (1-6) took the loss allowing six runs on nine hits with no walks and six strikeouts in six innings of work. It was Turley's second straight outing not allowing a walk.

The SeaWolves will look to bounce back on Tuesday night against the Fisher Cats at 7:05 p.m.
