Express Silenced by Sounds, 4-0

Nashville Rides Dominant Start by LHP Dillon Overton to Victory
June 20, 2016

NASHVILLE, Tennessee - A dominant start and a big inning propelled the Nashville Sounds (43-29) past the Round Rock Express (38-32) by a final score of 4-0 on Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park. With the win, Nashville claimed a 3-2 series victory in the five-game set between the two Southern Division rivals.

The story of the night was that of Sounds LHP Dillon Overton (8-4, 3.01), who collected his seventh straight victory by shutting out the E-Train on just five hits over 7.1 innings of work. Overton struck out six and walked just two. On the losing side, RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (3-6, 5.04) surrendered all four Nashville runs on a total of nine hits over seven innings. The righty recorded five punchouts to just two walks.

The only scoring of the contest occurred in the second inning as Nashville dropped a four-spot on Gonzalez. 3B Renato Nunez and RF Matt Olson began the frame with back-to-back singles before LF Matt McBride loaded the bases with a walk. A Joey Wendle groundout then scored Nunez to put the Sounds on the board. In the next at-bat, an RBI single courtesy of 1B Rangel Ravelo made it 2-0, but it was a two-run double off the bat of C Bruce Maxwell that did the most damage. In his first rehab game of the year with Nashville, Oakland A's DH Josh Reddick grounded into a double play to end the inning, but not before the Sounds built a 4-0 lead that proved to be insurmountable.

Round Rock's only legitimate threat came in the first inning as C Brett Nicholas and 3B Joey Gallo recorded two-out base hits but a Jared Hoying flyout promptly ended the inning. From there, Overton went to work, retiring 14 straight Express hitters until a Delino DeShields walk in the sixth briefly broke the string of dominance.

The E-Train threatened again in the eighth as 1B Drew Robinson and 2B Doug Bernier collected consecutive singles to open the frame, however Overton and reliever RHP Tucker Healy combined for a pair of strikeouts to douse the flames.

Round Rock now heads to Oklahoma City for a four-game date with the Dodgers. LHP Michael Roth (6-2, 3.02) is set to get the nod for the E-Train while OKC is planning on countering with RHP Logan Bawcom (1-3, 3.52). After the four-game set in Oklahoma City, the Express will return home on Saturday, June 25 to face the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
