Moncada, Swanson lead Futures rosters

Midsummer showcase to be held at Petco Park on Sunday, July 10
June 28, 2016

With less than two weeks remaining before the 2016 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game in San Diego, rosters have been set for the U.S. and World squads with loads of talent on tap, especially in the middle infield.

Top Red Sox prospect Yoan Moncada (MLB.com's No. 5 overall prospect) will star at second base for the World team, whose pitching staff is led by Cardinals No. 1 prospect Alex Reyes (No. 11 overall).

Shortstop and top Braves prospect Dansby Swanson (No. 6 overall) headlines the U.S. squad for the July 10 showcase at Petco Park, joined by Astros top prospect Alex Bregman (No. 18 overall) and a trio of star outfielders -- Pittsburgh's Austin Meadows (No. 16 overall), Boston's Andrew Benintendi (No. 21) and Cleveland's Clint Frazier (No. 23).

In his first full season in the Minors, Moncada has already graduated from Class A Advanced Salem to Double-A Portland and holds a combined .306/.416/.490 slash line with 36 stolen bases, 63 runs scored, 36 extra-base hits (five home runs) and 38 RBIs in 67 games. He blasted his first Double-A homer Friday, and while he has yet to steal a base for the Sea Dogs, his dynamic skill set will be on full display at one of baseball's most spacious ballparks.

Reyes has been electric for Triple-A Memphis since being reinstated from the restricted list on May 22, striking out 48 batters over 31 innings. The 21-year-old right-hander has yet to reach the seventh inning in any of his seven starts this season after returning from a 50-game suspension. A fireballer who can reach 100 mph on the radar gun, Reyes has walked 17 batters and hit three while holding opponents to a .227 batting average.

Swanson, last year's No. 1 overall pick, quickly outgrew Class A Advanced after slashing .333/.441/.526 for Carolina. In 48 games with Double-A Mississippi, the shortstop owns a .254/.336/.404 line with five homers, 32 runs scored, 24 RBIs and three stolen bases. He was the centerpiece of the offseason trade that sent Shelby Miller to Arizona, and the 22-year-old may not be in the Minor Leagues at this time next season.

Bregman has spent most of the season at shortstop for Double-A Corpus Christi, but he's seen 11 games at third base as well since he's unlikely to displace Carlos Correa at the Major League level. Despite moving around the infield, the No. 2 pick in the 2015 Draft has maintained a .297/.415/.559 slash line and leads the Texas League in OBP, slugging percentage and OPS (.975), though his days in that circuit are up.

San Diego fans will have the privilege of watching three of their own top prospects perform. No. 1 prospect Manuel Margot (No. 40 overall) and No. 15 prospect Carlos Asuaje will represent the World, while No. 3 prospect Hunter Renfroe (No. 83 overall) will suit up for the U.S.
