June 29, 2016

NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (7-6) bats came alive on Wednesday night against the Lowell Spinners (10-3), winning 8-3 behind a couple crooked number innings. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for the Tigers and evens up the series with the Boston Red Sox affiliate.

Locke St. John earned his first win of the season working a season-high six innings, allowing two early runs before settling in and racking up four consecutive scoreless frames. The offense backed their starting pitcher with a three-run fourth inning and four-run sixth inning.

In the fourth inning, trailing 2-1, the Tigers came up with a couple clutch two-out knocks from the top of their order. Will Savage smacked an RBI-single to left field, as Josh Lester came in to score, third basemen Rolldani Baldwin fired the cut throw to the backstop allowing Junnell Ledezma to score the lead run. Sam Machonis quickly followed with an RBI-single to give the Tigers a 4-2 advantage.

The Tigers piled on in the sixth inning with Blaise Salter clearing the bases with a double down the left field line. Salter had quite a night for the Tigers, going 3-5 with two doubles and three RBI's.

The top of the order contributed in a big way for the Tigers tonight. Will Savage (2-4, 3R, RBI, SB) as well as Sam Machonis (2-4, RBI, R) were able to get on base and set the table for the rest of the order.

John Hayes and Taylor Hicks both pitched scoreless innings out of the pen to help preserve the victory.

The Tigers will look to win the series tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. against the Spinners.
