Tides post 15 hits, beat Chiefs 5-2

Lombardozzi two hits for third day in a row in loss

Norfolk, VA (July 9, 2016) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Norfolk Tides, 5-2, Saturday night at Harbor Park. The Tides tallied 15 hits to take the third game of the series. Steve Lombardozzi had multiple hits for the third straight game for the Chiefs in the loss.

Syracuse (41-48) scored first for the 11th game in a row. Brian Goodwin doubled with one out against David Hale following Steve Lombardozzi's single to put runners on second and third. Matt Skole followed with an RBI groundout to second to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Norfolk (35-55) answered against Jaron Long in the second. The Tides put together four straight singles from Christian Walker, Corban Joseph, Audry Perez and Mike Yastrzemski to bring in two runs for a 2-1 lead.

Joseph helped add a third run in the third inning. Joseph singled home Trey Mancini, who had singled, to extend the lead to two.

The Chiefs got back within one in the fourth. Christopher Bostick led off the inning with a single, his 11th-straight game reaching base safely. Matt den Dekker then doubled to move the runners to second and third. After a fly out, Zach Collier drove in Bostick with a groundout to second to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Tides answered right back in the bottom of the frame. Perez reached on an error on Chiefs shortstop Adrian Sanchez to start the inning. Yastrzemski followed with a triple to bring home Perez for a 4-2 Tides lead.

Yastrzemski and Janish got the Tides a fifth run in the seventh. Janish followed Yastrzemski's double with one of his own off Aaron Laffey to push the Norfolk lead to three.

Syracuse can still win the series to close out the first half before the All-Star break Sunday at 6:05 p.m. Paolo Espino is scheduled to start for the Chiefs opposite Joe Gunkel for the Tides.
