B-Mets Drop First Half Finale, 8-4

Binghamton settles for split in Manchester
July 10, 2016

MANCHESTER, NH - The Binghamton Mets fell to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 8-4, despite pounding out 14 hits on a rainy Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Fisher Cats belted a pair of home runs and took advantage of three B-Met errors to grab the series finale.

With two aboard in the third, Ian Parmley pushed a sac bunt towards the mound. Mickey Jannis' throw to first sailed past LJ Mazzilli and allowed Derrick Loveless to score. Following an RBI groundout, Rowdy Tellez launched a three-run homer to left, his 13th of the season, to cap the five-run inning.

Jannis bounced back after the five-run inning and carried the game through the sixth. He retired 10 of the last 12 batters he faced.

Binghamton had chances to break through against Fisher Cats starter Shane Dawson, but failed to deliver the timely hit. The southpaw stranded two in the second and left the bases loaded in the third and fifth innings. Matt Oberste's two-out RBI single in the fifth proved to be the only blemish on his tab.

The B-Mets pulled within two runs with a pair of runs in the eighth, but watched New Hampshire throw three runs on the board in the bottom of the inning against Alberto Baldonado. Dwight Smith Jr. threaded a two-run homer inside the right-field foul pole to salt the game away.

Major League rehabber Jim Henderson started the game for the B-Mets and threw 11 pitches to three batters in a scoreless inning. Ryan Lavarnway stroked a hit off the left-field wall, but was thrown out at second by Victor Cruzado.

Jannis (3-8) allowed five runs (one earned) on four hits over five innings in the loss. Dawson (5-4) stranded eight runners over five innings to pick up the win.

The B-Mets (39-49) enter the All-Star Break in fifth place in the Eastern Division. Binghamton kicks off the second half of the season on Thursday at 6:35 PM against the Hartford Yard Goats. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting a 6:20 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.

POSTGAME NOTES: New Hampshire native Kevin McGowan threw a scoreless seventh inning…the 14 hits were the most in a loss for the B-Mets since they collected 16 in a 6-5 loss to the Fisher Cats on June 20, 2015…the +7 hit differential was the largest in a loss this season for Binghamton
