Jose Hernandez dazzles in 4-1 win

Bandits hold Clinton to one unearned run to draw series split

DAVENPORT, Iowa - Behind starter Jose Hernandez, the Quad Cities River Bandits held the Clinton LumberKings to just one unearned run and cruised to a 4-1 victory to earn a series-split on Monday night in front of 2,109 fans at Modern Woodmen Park. Connor Goedert and Osvaldo Duarte each had two hits and scored two runs while Dexture McCall added three hits for the Bandits.

Hernandez (2-2) matched a career-high with a seven-inning start for Quad Cities (10-9, 41-47). The right-hander allowed one unearned run on just one hit. Hernandez struck out six while earning his second victory of the season. Ralph Garza gave up three hits, but tossed the final two innings in scoreless fashion to notch his fifth save of the year and close out the 4-1 win over Clinton (14-5, 53-36).

The Bandits started the offense in the bottom of the second. Goedert led off with a double and Hector Roa followed with a run-scoring single. Duarte worked a walk and then scored on a two-out single from McCall to give Quad Cities a 2-0 lead.

Quad Cities added to the lead in the third. Goedert reached on his second double of the game. The two-bagger gave him the team lead in doubles with 18 on the season. Christian Correa plated Goedert with a single to make it a 3-0 game.

Three errors contributed to the LumberKings finding the scoreboard in the fourth. Rayder Ascanio reached on an error by the first baseman Roa and Alex Jackson got aboard on a fielding error by the right fielder Duarte. Conner Hale knocked a ball into the glove of the pitcher, who bounced a throw off the second base bag, scoring Ascanio to make it a 3-1 game.

Duarte got the run back with a solo home run in the sixth. His third long ball of the season gave Quad Cities a 4-1 advantage. The homer extended Duarte's active hitting streak to nine games.

Jeffeson Medina (0-6) took the loss for the LumberKings, allowing three runs on seven hits. The righty matched a career high with five walks over three innings.

After a league-wide off day on Tuesday, the River Bandits get back to action Wednesday in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
