Threshers Shut Out Beach Birds

Cardinals Get One Hit on Night

Jupiter, FL - Elniery Garcia threw eight innings of one hit baseball against the Palm Beach Cardinals (39-49, 7-12) as the Clearwater Threshers (51-37, 12-8) took game one by a final of 4-0.

The Rundown

Matt Pearce had another great outing as he tossed eight innings, giving up seven hits, two runs (both unearned), walking none and striking out three.

The game would be scoreless as the headed to the eighth inning. With two outs in the inning and a runner on second, Cord Sandberg hit a ball to Darren Seferina who misplayed the grounder and allowed Malquin Canelo to score. Pearce then gave up another two singles after the error to score another run and take a 2-0 lead.

Cole Lankford started the bottom of the eighth with a single to right to break up the no hitter. Thomas Spitz drew a walk putting runners at first and second with nobody out. Garcia then struck out Chris Rivera and Andrew Sohn and got Mercado to ground out to short. To kill the only scoring chance the Cardinals had in the game.

The Threshers added two more runs in the ninth and would eventually lose four to nothing.

Next Up

The Cardinals will return to Roger Dean Stadium tomorrow for the second game of the four game series with Clearwater. It will be an early start time of 12:00 as it's the second Splash Day of the year.
