Drive Downed by Suns, 3-2

Ockimey drives in both runs with eighth-inning double
July 17, 2016

Greenville, SC - On a quiet offensive day, it was a ninth-inning home run that gave the visiting Hagerstown Suns a 3-2 win over the Greenville Drive on Sunday at Fluor Field.

With the score knotted at two in the ninth, Ian Sagdal began the frame by lifting a Gerson Bautista (0-1) pitch over the Green Monster to put the Suns (15-9, 58-36) on top.

The homer came just after the Drive (11-12, 48-44) tied the game at two in the bottom of the eighth. Jeremy Rivera reached on an error in the eighth and moved to third on a double by Luis Alexander Basabe. Josh Ockimey followed by smacking a double off the right-field wall to tie it up.

Hagerstown scored single runs in the third and fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. Randy Encarnacion belted a one-out solo homer in the third, and doubles by Matthew Page and Sagdal in the fourth added another run.

Taylor Hearn (1-0) got the win for the Suns by throwing the final three frames in relief of Pedro Avila, who held the Drive scoreless over his six innings with six strikeouts.

Austin Glorius made a spot start for Greenville and allowed just two runs over four innings with three strikeouts, and Adam Lau followed by punching out five Suns hitters in three innings

The teams wrap up their series at 7:05 on Monday night at Fluor Field. Left-hander Enmanuel De Jesus (0-0, 5.40) takes the mound for the Drive, and the Suns will counter with right-hander James Bourque (1-4, 6.46).
