Lucas Giolito to start for Chiefs Tuesday

July 18, 2016
The Syracuse Chiefs have announced that right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito will start for the Chiefs this Tuesday, July 19th against the Gwinnett Braves. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35. Giolito is currently ranked the #1 prospect in baseball on MLB.com.

Giolito joined the Syracuse roster Saturday following two starts with the Washington Nationals and then one with Single-A Hagerstown during the All-Star Break. The 22-year-old has compiled a 5-3 record with a 3.35 ERA in 17 starts this season between Washington, Hagerstown and Double-A Harrisburg. Washington drafted Giolito in the first round, 16th overall, in 2012. Prior to the start of the 2016 season, MLB.com named Giolito as the #1 prospect in baseball, while Baseball America tabbed Giolito the fourth-best prospect in the game in their midseason rankings.

The Chiefs begin a three-game series with the Gwinnett Braves Monday evening at 6:35. Jaron Long is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite Roberto Hernandez of Gwinnett. Tickets are on sale now at syracusechiefs.com, by calling 474-7833 or in person at the NBT Bank Stadium ticket office.
