Palm Beach Falls in Eleven

Rivera Hits First Home Run of the Season

Jupiter, FL - After playing eleven innings at Roger Dean Stadium, the Brevard County Manatees (30-62, 7-17) was on top 5-4 of the Palm Beach Cardinals (40-53, 8-17)  

The Rundown

The Cardinals could not hold on to a 4-2 lead heading to the ninth and lost to Brevard by a final of 5-4 in the 11th. Pearce pitched 8.2 total innings, giving up four runs, on five hits, walking one and striking out six.

Palm Beach took an early lead in the first inning as Casey Turgeon drew a leadoff walk and got to third on an Andrew Brodbeck single. Turgeon later scored when Cole Lankford hit into a double play and the Cardinals took a 1-0 lead.

Palm Beach got another run on the board in the fourth to go up 2-0. Lankford started things off with a single and Casey Grayson followed it up with a walk. Both runners advance on a ground out and Lankford came across to score on a Thomas Spitz ground out as well.

Brevard then tied things up in the top of the sixth. Dustin Houle singled to start things off and Corey Ray got him to third on a one out double to right. Houle scored on a ground out to third, getting Ray to third base. The next batter, Dustin Demuth, was hit by a pitch. The Manatees scored their second run of the inning as Ray came across the plate before Demuth was caught stealing.

Chris Rivera made it a 4-2 game in the seventh as he hit a two run home run to left field bringing in Spitz after he started the inning with a double.

In the top of the ninth, the Manatees tied things back up at four. Pearce gave up back-to-back singles to start the ninth to Corey Ray and Wendell Rijo. Chris Rivera then picked off Ray at second for the first out. Pearce walked Demuth to put two more on. Coulter lined out to right for the second out of the inning putting Rijo at third. Elvis Rubio singled to right to score Rijo and putting Demuth at third. Landon Beck came on to pitch and gave up a single to tie the game. He then ended the inning on a strikeout.

In the tenth inning, Oscar Mercado started things off with a double to left center and got to third on a wild pitch. Turgeon grounded out to the pitcher, Vaughn Bryan struck out, and Cole Lankford walked. With two outs, Grayson came to the plate and grounded out to third. Mercado would be stranded at third as he got there with nobody out.

Brevard took the lead in the eleventh as George Iskenderian hit a one out double and later scored on a ground out after reaching third on a wild pitch. The Cardinals then went down in order in the bottom half of the eleventh to lose 5-4.

 Stat of the Game

8 - Cardinals lost their eighth extra inning game of the season tonight, falling to 3-8 in such games.

Notes

  • Chris Rivera hit his first home run of the season in the seventh inning of the game.
  • Pearce went 8.2 innings in the loss giving up four runs, two in the ninth to tie it.
  • Lankford had his fourth multi hit game in a row.
