SeaWolves Down Baysox in 12 Innings

It took 12 innings on Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium and the SeaWolves took down the Bowie Baysox, 5-3, snapping a two-game losing streak.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the second against Baysox starter David Hess. With one out, Dominic Ficociello doubled and Connor Harrell singled putting runners on the corners for Mike Gerber. Gerber grounded out to second, plating Ficociello for a 1-0 lead.

Bowie struck back in the bottom of the fourth against Erie spot starter Austin Kubitza. Kubitza had worked three scoreless frames heading into the inning. Sharlon Schoop led off the inning and reached on an error and Quincy Latimore walked, putting two on base. Adrian Marin singled to load the bases for Austin Wynns. Erie summoned reliever Cal Drummond. Wynns hit into a fielder's choice, scoring Schoop, tying the game. Jay Gonzalez followed with a walk, reloading the bases for the top of the lineup. Drew Dosch lifted a sacrifice fly to right, scoring Latimore for a 2-1 lead. Garabez Rosa then singled home Wynns for a 3-1 Baysox advantage.

The SeaWolves struck back in the sixth. Ficociello led off with a single, his third hit of the game, and moved to second on a passed ball. With one out, Gerber doubled home Ficociello with his first Double-A hit, making it 3-2. Gerber came home to score on a Grayson Greiner base knock, tying the game.

The game remained scoreless until the top of the 12th when Erie regained the lead against reliever Jon Keller. Gustavo Nunez led off with a single but was erased at second on a failed sacrifice bunt attempt by Anthony Gose. Corey Jones walked, pushing Gose into scoring position. With two outs, Keller walked Harrell loading the bases. Bowie changed to reliever Michael Zouzalik. A wild pitch thrown by Zouzalik with Gerber at the plate scored Gose from third for a 4-3 Erie lead. Gerber eventually walked, reloading the bases for Austin Green. Green sent a ground ball to second and Gerber beat out the force, plating Jones for a 5-3 SeaWolves lead.

Joe Jimenez worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the 12th, earning his 11th save in 12 chances.

Lendy Castillo (3-3) earned the win for Erie tossing two scoreless innings with no walks and a strikeout.

Keller (0-3) took the loss allowing two runs on one hit with three walks and no strikeouts in 1.2 innings.

The SeaWolves look for the series win on Sunday afternoon against the Baysox at 2:05 p.m. LHP Josh Turley (4-7, 4.35 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Matthew Grimes (1-2, 3.57 ERA).
