Bees Fall 7-5 in Extras

SALT LAKE CITY (July 24, 2016) - For the second consecutive night the Salt Lake Bees fell to the Tacoma Rainiers in extra innings, losing a 7-5 decision in 10 innings on Sunday night. In the 10th Rob Brantly reached base for Tacoma on an error and after a fly out Dan Vogelbach singled on line drive to right. Patrick Kivlehan followed with fly ball down the right field line, but Bees right fielder Cal Towey had the ball pop out of his glove on a diving attempt and both runners scored. Kaleb Cowart and Rafael Ortega each singled for Salt Lake with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to bring the winning run to the plate, but Sherman Johnson's line drive was hit directly at Daniel Robertson to end the game.

Four Salt Lake pitchers combined for 10 innings of work for Salt Lake on a bullpen day. Javy Guerra got his first start since 2013, giving up two runs over three innings. Lucas Luetge followed with a pair of scoreless innings before the Rainiers would get to Greg Mahle with three runs in the sixth. Alan Busentiz finished the game with three innings of relief allowing the two unearned runs in the tenth. Craig Gentry and Cliff Pennington combined to go 2-for-8 with three runs and two RBIs as they continue their MLB rehab assignments from the Angels.

The Bees will be back tomorrow night for the final game of the series and season against Tacoma at 7:05 pm. After Tacoma, the Bees hit the road for back-to-back four-game series' against Albuquerque and Sacramento before returning to Smith's Ballpark on Wednesday, Aug. 3.
