Killian Strong but Tourists Fall in Extras

July 28, 2016

ASHEVILLE, NC-- Trey Killian continued his dominating second half form on Thursday night with another strong pitching performance for the Asheville Tourists. Unfortunately, Asheville fell to the Columbia Fireflies 3-2 in ten innings.

Killian worked seven frames and surrendered only a pair of fourth inning runs. The right-hander did not walk a batter and struck out four. The Tourists staked him an early lead when Brian Mundell cracked a solo Home Run over the centerfield wall in the top of the first.

Asheville added another in the top of the fourth. With Mundell at third, Max George recorded a bunt single to put the team in front 2-0. After Columbia rallied in the bottom of the fourth to tie score, neither team managed much offensively the rest of the way.

The Tourists did load the bases with two outs in the top of the tenth but could not break the tie. Columbia worked themselves into a bases loaded situation in the bottom of the tenth. J.C. Rodriguez was patient at the plate and took ball four from Ben Bowden for the game-winning walk.

Daza and Carlos Herrera each recorded multi-hit games for Asheville while George extended his on-base streak to 22 straight games.

The two teams are back in action at 7:05pm on Friday night.
