BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Trey Michalczewski brought home his third RBI to bring the Birmingham Barons within one run in extra innings before the Tennessee Smokies shut the door and sent the home team to a 7-6 defeat at Regions Field.

Michalczewski drew Birmingham's fourth straight two-out walk to place the tying run 90 feet away in the 10th inning, but James Farris blew three fastballs past catcher Alfredo Gonzalez to close the game.

Nolan Sanburn suffered the loss, allowing back-to-back home runs in the 10th after working a flawless ninth inning that featured two strikeouts.

Brian Clark continued his tear through the Southern League, allowing no earned runs in two innings while adding two strikeouts. Starter Tyler Barnette tossed six innings and allowed just two earned runs on six hits.

Birmingham's defense committed four errors on the night, allowing three unearned runs in total to cross.

Courtney Hawkins scorched an eighth inning double to tie the game at five, the Barons second straight extra-base hit. Eddy Alvarez added an RBI, his 57th this year, when he plated Chris O'Dowd earlier in the inning.

Michalczewski mashed his 20th double this year earlier in the game to draw the Barons within one run, bring home Hunter Jones and Alvarez to make the score 4-3 in the sixth inning. Hawkins' first double of the game started the scoring for Birmingham, bringing home Marcus Lemon.

James Dykstra will start the series finale tomorrow at Regions Field. First pitch for Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
