Missions even series behind Lloyd's gem

August 5, 2016

A terrific outing by right-hander Kyle Lloyd guided San Antonio to a 3-0 win over Frisco Friday night in front of 4,744 at Wolff Stadium.

Friday's contest was played at a speedy pace as Lloyd and mound opponent, Reed Garrett, breezed through the first five innings, combining to allow just four hits.

San Antonio plated the game's first run in the sixth when Trae Santos took Garrett's 3-2 pitch over the wall right. It was Santos' first Double-A hit.

An inning later, the Missions created separation against Garrett's replacement, Luke Jackson. The 'Riders righty began the frame by recording two quick outs. However, his inning then got complicated, when River Stevens followed a Gabriel Quintana double with a single to left center to make the score, 2-0. On the play, Stevens advanced all the way to third when left fielder Joe Jackson's throw sailed over catcher Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Stevens would come into score on an error by third baseman Alberto Triunfel.

The support was more than enough for Lloyd, who allowed just three hits and one walk, while striking out four over a season-high, tying seven shutout innings. It was Lloyd's fourth start this season in which he did not allow a run. Lloyd (6-4) threw 61 of his 92 pitches for strikes.

Adam Cimber and Jimmy Brasoban (third save) did not allow a hit over the final two innings to put a bow on San Antonio's eighth shutout of the season.

San Antonio (20-22, 42-70) resumes its four-game series with Frisco (17-25, 55-56) Saturday on Star Wars Night benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. The Missions will be wearing special Star Wars-themed jerseys that will be auctioned off with all the proceeds going to the Alzheimer's Association. Seth Simmons (1-3, 2.61) will get the ball for the Missions, while the 'Riders counter with fellow righty Ariel Jurado (1-1, 2.25).
