Drive Sweep RiverDogs in Saturday's Doubleheader

Boyd's 12th win matches Drive single-season record
August 6, 2016

Charleston, SC - Saturday's doubleheader in the Lowcountry was dominated by the Greenville Drive pitching staff, who allowed just one run over two games to lead the Drive to a sweep of the day's action against the Charleston RiverDogs.

The Drive (20-22, 57-54) received some early offense in the opening game as well to come away with a 4-1 win. A Michael Chavis RBI single off Christian Morris (7-3) in the first put the Drive ahead 1-0, and a three-run second featured a Trenton Kemp RBI double, a Jeremy Rivera RBI single and a Derek Miller RBI single.

The early support gave Drive starter Logan Boyd his 12th win of the season, which ties the franchise record for single-season wins, a mark also held by Felix Doubront in 2008 and Henry Owens in 2012. Boyd allowed just one run on six hits over six innings, and the only blemish on his afternoon was a solo homer by Charleston's (20-22, 62-49) Ricardo Ferreira in the fifth.

Victor Diaz hurled a scoreless seventh inning in the opener and notched his seventh save. Chavis and Kemp paced the Drive offense with two hits apiece.

In game two, Greenville's three pitchers kept the RiverDogs off the board in a 1-0 win. Austin Glorius held Charleston to just one hit with four strikeouts in three and two-third innings in a spot start. Adam Lau (2-2) followed with four strikeouts of his own in two and one-third frames of work, and Stephen Nogosek preserved the shutout in his Drive debut to notch the save.

Rivera was responsible for the only run in the nightcap, as his sacrifice fly off Daris Vargas (8-6) in the third inning plated Kemp, who led off with a single.

The Drive clinched a victory of the weekend series with tonight's sweep, and they lead the Battle of the Palmetto State presented by Spinx seven games to five.

Sunday's series finale in Charleston is set for 5:05 PM. Right-hander Roniel Raudes (9-4, 4.22) takes the mound for Greenville, while the RiverDogs starter has not been announced.
