Two Express Pitchers Earn Texas Rangers Monthly Honors

Martinez and Fasola Named Pitcher and Reliever of the Month

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced their monthly minor league award winners for July on Wednesday afternoon, with two Round Rock Express pitchers on the list: Nick Martinez and John Fasola. Martinez received Pitcher of the Month honors while Fasola was named Reliever of the Month.

Martinez, 26, made three appearances (two starts) in July with a 2.81 ERA (16.0ip/5er). He struck out 12 batters while allowing just two walks. He took the loss in both of his starts, holding opponents to just five runs while receiving two runs in support. He made two starts with the Rangers in July, going 0-2 and giving up 11 runs in 8.1 innings. The Florida native has spent most of the season with the Express, posting a 6-6 record with a 4.19 ERA (86.0ip/40er). This is Martinez's third organizational award, winning the Rangers Player of the Month accolades in April 2015 and minor league monthly honors in August/September 2013.

Fasola, 24, split the month between the Express and the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders. In 25 combined appearances, he posted a 1-0 record with a 1.45 ERA (18.2ip/3er). He converted all five save opportunities he had in Frisco. Overall, he allowed just three walks while striking out 19 batters. This is the first organizational award for Fasola.
