BIRMINGHAM, AL -- Eddy Alvarez broke out for a five-hit performance but the Birmingham Barons fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts by a 5-2 final score Monday evening at Regions Field.

Alvarez, 26, became the first Baron since Tim Anderson to record five hits in a game, snapping a record that stood for over a year. The Miami native is now hitting .420 (21-for-50) during the month of August, and continues to pace the Barons with 62 RBIs.

The Barons leadoff hitter started the scoring for Birmingham in the fifth inning, bringing home Hunter Jones with a single. A base hit from Courtney Hawkins tied the game 2-2 but Chattanooga came up with a trio of runs in the sixth inning.

Brandon Brennan suffered his first loss as a reliever this season, allowing three earned runs on four hits while recording three strikeouts.

Nolan Sanburn ended up with a no-decision in his second start this season, allowing just one run on three hits in four frames of work.

Colin Kleven notched a scoreless fifth inning out of the bullpen, and Matt Cooper closed the game with two innings of relief.

Serving as the Barons designated hitter, Chicago White Sox second baseman Brett Lawrie continued his stellar rehab assignment with a 2-for-5 night at the dish.

The Barons will name the starter for Wednesday's series opener against the Jackson Generals prior to the 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Regions Field.
