RiverDogs All-Star Closer, Andrew Schwaab, Recalled from Tampa

Sidewinding righty returns to Charleston after a month long stint in Tampa
August 18, 2016

AUGUSTA, GA- The New York Yankees have announced that the RiverDogs' All-Star closer, RHP Andrew Schwaab, has been recalled from High-A Tampa to join Charleston on the tail end of their road trip in Augusta.

Schwaab, 23, was a dominant force at the back end of the RiverDogs bullpen before his call up to Tampa on July 17. The former Missouri Tiger went 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA while converting 18 of 24 save opportunities. A non-drafted free agent signee by the Yankees in 2015, the side winding closer out of O'Fallon, Missouri struck out 38 batters while walking just eight in his 34 innings with Charleston. Beginning the season on Charleston's Opening Day roster, the 6'1" righty was named a SAL Mid-Season All-Star as one of five RiverDogs representatives at the Midsummer Classic in Lexington.

Despite the month long hiatus away from the RiverDogs, Schwaab still ranks second in the league in saves and fourth in games finished (27). With the T-Yanks, Schwaab posted a 3.86 ERA in 8 appearances in the Florida State League while logging 18 strikeouts and 11 walks in 14 innings of work.

In a corresponding move, RHP Greg Weissert was reassigned to Short Season Staten Island. The rookie hurler out of Fordham University had a 0.96 ERA with 10 strikeouts and four walks in 9.1 innings with Charleston.

With their retooled roster, the RiverDogs finish their three-game series with Augusta, taking on the GreenJackets in the rubber match on Thursday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium with the first pitch set for 7:05pm. RHP Christian Morris (7-4, 3.21) will toe the rubber for Charleston against GreenJackets RHP Jake McCasland (6-4, 1.59). The game will be broadcast on WTMA 1250 AM and online streaming at riverdogs.com and the TuneIn Radio App.

Ticket information for the RiverDogs homestand and any of the remaining home games can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com. Tickets for Game Two of the SAL Divisional Series on Friday, September, 9 at 7:05pm are now available.  Those that can't make it to the park can follow every pitch of the RiverDogs season on WTMA 1250 AM and streaming online at riverdogs.com.
