Flaherty Pitches Gem in Final Start of Season

Hudson Gets Third Save of the Season

Jupiter, FL - The Palm Beach Cardinals (56-79, 24-43) rode the coattails of Jack Flaherty to a 4-2 victory over the Charlotte Stone Crabs (64-69, 31-33).

The Rundown

Jack Flaherty (5-9) tossed seven two run innings giving up five hits walking none and striking out eight in his final start of the 2016 campaign. Charlotte jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the third inning as Tomas Milone doubled with one out and scored on a Joe McCarthy single to center after Riley Unroe was hit by a pitch. Unroe also came around to score on the single as Oscar Mercado had a throwing error that allowing Unroe to come around from first.

The Cardinals would score one run in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth inning to grab the 4-2 lead. Mercado doubled in the third and was brought across on a Pena single. Dylan Tice singled in the fourth and Andrew Brodbeck and Chris Rivera drew a pair of walks to load the bases. Jose Fernandez brought Tice in on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at two.

The Cardinals then took the lead in the fifth as Brayan Pena started the inning with a single and later scored on a Tice single. The fourth run came in the sixth as Pena sacrificed in Rivera to give them the two run cushion.

Dakota Hudson came into the game in the eighth inning and got a two inning save for his third of the year. The Cardinals would win 4-2 over Charlotte.
