Hawks Slam Volcanoes with 13 Runs in Win

September 5, 2016

Keizer, OR: Game seventy five saw the Boise Hawks rain down on the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes on Sunday night. Thirteen runs across would lift the Hawks to take the series away.

Boise made their presence known in the third inning against Garrett Williams. Tyler Orris got the rally started for the Hawks with a leadoff single. Steven Linkous followed with a bunt base hit and Luis Castro was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Garrett Hampson came to the plate and put a single into right to drive in a run. Willie Abreu was hit as well with the bases loaded and Williams exited the ball game with an injury.

The Hawks would grab two more on a walk and a Jacob Bosiokovic sacrifice fly. Nine men came up and four runs scored to give the Hawks a strong lead. Boise would double that tally in the fourth, capped by a Willie Abreu two run home run. The Hawks poured it on 8-0 after four.

Salem-Keizer attempted a comeback. Volcanoes' Brandon Van Horn smacked a two run home run and Kevin Rivera knocked a solo jack himself all off Antonio Santos in the bottom of the fifth.

The two clubs traded a pair of runs in the sixth inning to see the game move to a 10-5 advantage for the Hawks. Boise was back on the board in the eighth inning with a Hampson two run double and an Abreu sac fly. Kelvin Franco and Austin Moore cruised in the final three innings out of the Hawks pen to shut down Salem-Keizer in a 13-5 spanking at Volcanoes Stadium. Abreu and Hampson would combine for a 5 for 8 night with nine RBI.

The Hawks have won the first two of the series and head into the final game of 2016 looking for a series sweep on the road. All the action can be heard on BoiseHawks.com on Labor Day.
