Hawks Drop Final Game of 2016

September 6, 2016

Keizer, OR: On the last day of the season, the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes put on a show to take down the Boise Hawks with twelve big runs.

The Volcanoes offensive downpour stared innocently with two runs in the second. Salem-Keizer's Ryan Kirby came home on a Jacob Heyward double. Ryan Howard would also come in to score on a Zack Bowers groundout. The Volcanoes would pour it on with three in the third, and exploded for six runs in the second. Five of the runs were charged to Rico Garcia while six (two unearned) were property of Ryan McCormick.

The Hawks got their only runs in the fourth and seventh. In the fourth inning, Garrett Hampson got it going with a leadoff single. With Willie Abreu coming to the plate, Melvin Adon offered the first pitch. Hampson took off for second and slid in ahead of the high throw from catcher Bowers. Hampson's 36th stolen base of the year tied a Hawks single season record, putting him atop with 2005's Davy Gregg for the most in the Hawks era. Hampson would finish his season with 36 stolen bases. He scored on a Jacob Bosiokovic single.

In the seventh, Antony Brito came in on a Tyler Follis infield single, but the Hawks were quiet the rest of the way. Boise dropped their final game of 2016.

The 2016 season is over, but Hawks baseball returns for June of 2017. Season ticket information and pricing for the next Northwest League season can be acquired by calling (208) 322-5000.
