Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame opens nominations for 2017 class

LANSING, Mich. - Public nominations are now open for the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame's 2017 Hall of Fame ballot!

Nominations of players, coaches, teams and contributors ranging from Little League to the Major Leagues may be submitted via MichiganBaseballHall.org. Nominees may include both native Michiganders as well as individuals from elsewhere who came to Michigan and contributed positively and significantly within the national pastime.

The nominating period will close on December 20th, with the Hall of Fame ballot moving on to the nine-member voting committee.

The Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2017 will be inducted at Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday, July 15th.

The mission of the Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame: 1) Honor the state's baseball heroes of yesterday; 2) Celebrate the national pastime today; 3) Inspire the baseball fans and ballplayers of tomorrow.

The inaugural Hall of Fame class in 2015 saw ten inductees: high school coaching legends Pat O'Keefe and Larry Tuttle; voice of the Tigers Ernie Harwell; and standout players Jim Abbott, Bill Freehan, Charlie Gehringer, Al Kaline, Hal Newhouser, John Smoltz and Alan Trammell. This past season, Kirk Gibson and the record-setting Homer High School Trojans of 2003-2006 were inducted.
