Spikes' 2017 schedule released, ticket plans available

The 2017 State College Spikes schedule is out, and the defending New York-Penn League champions are getting ready to take the field. The Spikes, Short-Season Single-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, will begin the summer at home on Monday, June 19, and ticket plans for all 38 home games on the 2017 schedule are now available.

In addition to Season Ticket memberships that grant exclusive benefits, fans can now purchase Flex Books for the 2017 season. Flex Books give fans 12 undated tickets vouchers for the price of 10, with a bonus 13th voucher available for orders placed before December 31, 2016.

The 2017 season will start with Opening Night on June 19 as the Spikes take on the rival Williamsport Crosscutters (Philadelphia Phillies). The Spikes and Crosscutters will meet a total of 13 times in the 2017 season, with eight of the matchups taking place at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. In addition to Opening Night and the regular season finale on Thursday, September 7, State College will host Williamsport for a trio of Wednesday matchups on July 5, July 19 and September 6, as well as a weekend series August 25-27.

The Spikes will also host a rematch of the 2016 NYPL Championship Series when the Hudson Valley Renegades (Tampa Bay Rays) visit from August 8-10.

The three-time Pinckney Division champion will welcome more division rivals to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this season. The Auburn Doubledays (Washington Nationals) will visit Happy Valley a total of four times, with three-game series scheduled for June 28-30, July 7-9, July 30-August 1 and September 3-5. The Spikes' final regular season series against Auburn will take place starting on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend.

Plus, the Batavia Muckdogs (Miami Marlins) visit for a pair of three-game sets from June 21-23 and again from July 1-3. Meanwhile, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers, affiliate of the 2016 American League champion Cleveland Indians, head into State College for one three-game series this year, which will take place July 23-25.

The West Virginia Black Bears, affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates and 2015 NYPL champions, will also visit Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for one series this season. The Spikes and Black Bears are scheduled to clash in Central PA from August 22-24.

Another interdivision series rounds out the Spikes' home slate, as the Vermont Lake Monsters (Oakland Athletics) come to State College from August 11-13.

Fans of daytime action can also enjoy a trio of noon games against Auburn at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park this year. The first matinee will take place on Saturday, July 8, with another to follow on Tuesday, August 1. The day games will conclude with a Labor Day matchup against the Doubledays on Monday, September 4.

Game times for all other home games from Monday through Saturday will be 7:05 p.m. Sunday home games will begin at 6:05 p.m.

The Spikes' divisional road schedule includes five games at Williamsport (June 20, July 4, July 6, July 17-18), nine games at Mahoning Valley (June 24-26, August 5-7, August 31-September 2), three games at Batavia (July 27-29), three games at Auburn (August 19-21) and 12 matchups against West Virginia (July 20-22, August 2-4, August 16-18, August 28-30).

Outside the Pinckney Division, the Spikes will visit the Tri-City ValleyCats (Houston Astros) from July 11-13 and the Brooklyn Cyclones (New York Mets) from July 14-16 for three games each.
