The 28-year-old in four games posted a .364 batting average (4-11), adding three runs, one double, two homers and eight RBI with the Melbourne Aces. That span included a three-hit game with a homer and five RBI in his 2016 ABL debut on November 18 versus the Perth Heat. The next day he also homered and drove in three runs in the second game of a doubleheader versus the Heat.

De San Miguel, who was born in Perth, Australia, played in the ABL with the Perth Heat each of the past six seasons. He combined for a .275 clip (226-823) with 142 runs, 48 doubles, 32 homers and 135 RBI in 233 total games with the Heat in that span. He also played for Team Australia in the 2016 World Baseball Classic Qualifier Round, helping the club clinch a spot in the 2017 tournament.

He played in ten games with the Storm Chasers during the 2016 minor league season, recording a .200 mark (6-30) along with six runs, three doubles and two RBI. He split time between Omaha and Double-A Northwest Arkansas, tallying a .180 clip (11-61) in 20 contests with the Naturals, adding five runs, one double, one longball and five RBI.

De San Miguel was signed by the Royals as a minor league free agent on January 6, 2016, and recently re-signed with the club for the 2017 campaign. He was originally signed by the Minnesota Twins as a non-drafted free agent on August 18, 2004.
