Hot Rods Trail Early, Lose to Kernels

Bowling Green, KY - In game two of a three-game set and the second series of a week at home at Bowling Green Ballpark, the Bowling Green Hot Rods fell behind early and lost by a score of 7-3 to the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Friday night.

A day after the Hot Rods shutout the Kernels and held them to just four hits, Cedar Rapids scored two runs in the first inning against Bowling Green starter Peter Bayer (L, 0-1) to take the early lead. Both runs came on a two-run double by outfielder Jaylin Davis.
Cedar Rapids then doubled their lead in the third inning with two more runs, highlighted by a single from catcher Mitch Kranson, who paced the Kernels offensive attack with four hits.
Kranson had two doubles, the latter of them scoring a run in the ninth inning. Cedar Rapids also got a RBI single by third basemen Travis Blackenhorn in the fourth inning and a RBI double by outfielder Shane Carrier in the sixth inning for the rest of their runs.
Offensively, Bowling Green scored their first run on a RBI single by second basemen Robbie Tenerowicz in the third inning.
Tenerowicz was also the source of the first of two runs in the fifth inning, drawing a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch. Outfielder Jesus Sanchez plated designated hitter Jonah Heim later in the inning with a run-scoring groundout for the final run of the game for the Hot Rods.
Overall, the Hot Rods bats were only able to manage seven hits with Tenerowicz, catcher Rene Pinto and shortstop Miles Mastrobuoni leading the way with two base knocks apiece.
For Bowling Green, the loss marked the first time in 12 games that a starting pitcher gave up more than three runs in a game.
The Hot Rods will finish their stretch at home with the last of three games against the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Southcentral Kentucky on Saturday. Bowling Green will send RHP Adrian Navas to the mound while the Kernels will counter with righty Clark Beeker.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m central time at Bowling Green Ballpark.
