Modesto, CA. - Three home runs erased the Modesto Nuts' early lead in a 12-8 loss to the San Jose Giants on Sunday afternoon at John Thurman Field.
Early on the Nuts' (25-18) offense was rolling. After a run in the first, the Nuts plated five runs in the second against Giants' (17-27) starter Jake McCasland (W, 1-4). The Nuts batted around in the second inning. Chris Mariscal delivered a RBI single. He finished 3-for-5 with two runs and a double. Jordan Cowan whacked a RBI double. He went 2-for-4. Logan Taylor drove in two with a single and Eric Filia capped the rally with a RBI double. Filia finished 3-for-4, with two doubles and a run scored.
That was it for the Nuts offense until Joe DeCarlo launched a two-run homer in the ninth. McCasland did not allow another run in five innings of work.
In the fourth, the Giants responded with a five-run inning of their own. Gio Brusa smacked a two-run homer to remove the Nuts' starter Bryan Bonnell from the game after three-plus innings allowing three runs with one walk and one strikeout. Jose Santiago (L, 0-1) followed out of the 'pen and surrendered a game-tying two-run triple to Bryan Reynolds who finished 5-for-6. In the fifth, Heath Quinn launched a go-ahead homer and the Giants didn't look back after that.
