Bowling Green, KY - Fresh off a roadtrip where they lost six games by two runs or less, the Bowling Green Hot Rods took out their frustration on the South Bend Cubs with an 11-1 rout in the opener of a four-game series at Bowling Green Ballpark on Monday night.
Highlighting the big night was another marvelous start from LHP Brock Burke . The southpaw improved to 5-0 on the year by tossing seven innings of one-run baseball, giving up just two hits while striking out a career-high nine batters. The win was secured as RHP Spencer Jones  threw two perfect innings.
Burke and Jones combined to toss eight perfect innings, as the only frame South Bend got a hit or a baserunner was the fourth inning. They scored their run on a RBI groundout by third basemen Wladimir Galindo.
Through eight starts this year, Burke has a miniscule 1.22 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched.
Offensively, the Hot Rods improved to 13-2 this year when scoring the first run of the game as they plated two in the top of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead.
After a RBI single by outfielder Garrett Whitley  in the fourth inning made the score 3-0, the Hot Rods broke out for five runs in the fifth inning, with four coming against Cubs starter Manuel Rondon (L, 5-2) to spark their rout.
Highlighting the frame was a two-run homer from first basemen Robbie Tenerowicz  and a solo homer by outfielder Joshua Lowe against Cubs reliever Pedro Silverio.
Bowling Green scored their other two runs on a two-run single from Whitley in the seventh inning.
Whitley and Tenerowicz paced the Hot Rods 14-hit barrage with three hits apiece. Infielders Lucius Fox  and Mike Brosseau each chipped in with two hits.
For the Hot Rods, the 11 runs and ten-run win tied season-highs. They have now scored 10 or more runs in a game six different times this season.
In Bowling Green, the Hot Rods are now 11-10 this year and have scored double-digit runs in three of their last five home games.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their momentum swing with the second game of a four-game series and a week back at home against the South Bend Cubs. Both teams have yet to determine their starting pitcher.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm on Tuesday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
