DES MOINES - The Reno Aces (30-19) captured a 3-1 series win with a 7-6 victory over the Iowa Cubs (21-26), Friday in front of 9,765 fans at Principal Park.

The action started early with five combined runs in the first. Ildemaro Vargas and Ketel Marte opened the game with back-to-back extra base hits off Aaron Brooks to plate the first run. Oswaldo Arcia skied a sacrifice fly to bring in the Aces second run of the frame. Iowa responded with three immediate runs as Jeimer Candelario, batting with the bases loaded, cleared the runners with a double.
The 3-2 Iowa lead held until the sixth. Reno retook the edge with a two-run inning, but the I-Cubs, once again, matched then exceeded the effort. Chris Dominguez did the damage with a two-RBI double and Reno helped plate another on an error.
Brooks worked into the eighth, but allowed a leadoff double to Marte and was lifted in favor of the bullpen. Brooks gave the Aces five runs on nine hits, walked none and fanned six in his outing. Pierce Johnson took the mound and allowed the inherited runner to score, while adding two earned runs of his own as Reno took a lasting lead. Johnson (2-1) pocketed the loss, his first since July 21, 2016.
The I-Cubs head to Memphis for a four-game series beginning tomorrow at 6:35 p.m. Listen to all the action on AM 940 or online at www.iowacubs.com.
