Manchester, NH--- The Portland Sea Dogs edged the SeaWolves in another close ballgame Saturday night at Hadlock Field, beating Erie 4-3.
For the second straight night, Erie got on the board first. Gabriel Quintana stayed hot and blasted a two-run homer into left to give the 'Wolves a 2-0 lead in the first off of Trey Ball.
Portland did not waste any time for an answer in the bottom of the first inning. Sea Dogs centerfielder Cole Sturgeon bounced a single up the middle to bring in two runs to tie the ballgame at 2-2 off of starter Myles Jaye.
The score stayed tied until the bottom of the fifth inning until Portland's second baseman Josh Tobias grounded out to score Danny Mars from third. After six innings, Portland still led the SeaWolves 3-3.
In the top of the seventh, Dominic Ficociello hit a fly ball deep enough to left, scoring Ross Kivett from third to tie it up once again at 3-3. Ficociello finished the night 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Lance Parrish took Jaye out of the game after he struck out Danny Mars in the seventh, and brought in lefty reliever Jairo Labourt. On Labourt's first pitch to Tzu-Wei Lin, the Portland shortstop smoked an RBI double that gave the Sea Dogs a 4-3 lead.
Luis Valdes led off the ninth with a single, but a fielder's choice took him off of the base paths. Williams Jerez then shut down the side to pick up his second save and hand Erie their third consecutive loss. Portland's Jake Cosart improved to 2-2 with the win.
The SeaWolves are now 29-30 on the season, and Myles Jaye also falls to 1-5. Erie ends their six game road trip tomorrow at Hadlock Field. LHP Tyler Alexander (3-4, 4.53 ERA) will start against Portland's RHP Jacob Dahlstrand (5-1, 5.93 ERA) in a game set to start at 1:35 PM.
